Kyoto Kamogawa
~ Okamochi Bento at Takeshima IChigo
We spent the last weekend in Kyoto. We had an “Okamochi Bento” with a glass of beer on the Noryodoko terrace along the Kamo River, cool riverbed dining on the riverbed platform was my long-time dream. It was a hot day, but there was a refreshing wind blowing on that day. The bento box is two-tiered, and a variety of dishes, each beautifully arranged on a tiny plate, were included in each box.
Okamochi Bento menu:
Tofu simmered in dashi soup
Fish --- boiled conger eel with dressing, seabream sashimi with seaweed
Simmered dishes --- Hijiki seaweed with deep fried tofu mix, green beans, goya(bitter melon), pement, green vegetable mix, eggplant, fu, taro,
Japanese pickles
Rice cooked with shredded sea bream
Dessert --- Bracken-starch dumpling with Matcha powder
Japanese tea

"FU" has been traditionally used in the temples and courts of Kyoto since the 17th century. "FU" is rich in vegetable protein and low in calories and fats, making it perfect for health-conscious people. It also contains numerous minerals such as calcium, iron, and zinc. FU is commonly used in Japanese cuisine, particularly in dishes like miso soup.
Hanbei-fu has a museum showcasing a variety of traditional obento boxes. It is worth a visit!
