Sept. 8: PM Ishiba announced that he will step down to take responsibility for the poor result in the July 20 upper house election. The LDP is no longer a powerful leading party, and the ruling coalition has become a minority government in both the Upper House and the Lower House. Because of this and PM Ishiba’s lack of a strong power base within the party, he has struggled to demonstrate his ability to push for political reform. Many people were disappointed to see the power struggle within the LDP, especially Diet members or former PMs calling for his resignation.
Sept. 1: At the start of September, it can still be hot and humid, but it will be cooler and nicer in the middle or end of September. The weather is unstable this year, but it is the beginning of autumn, and it is one of the best seasons, when the leaves turn red and yellow.
We concluded this summer with a meal of curried rice at International Culture House in Roppongi.
