JIYUGAOKA
JIYUGAOKA is the posh and trendy uptown in Tokyo. It is a cozy neighborhood within a 15-minute train ride from Shibuya. You can find fashionable boutiques, cute Japanese goods, and trendy cafes along the streets.
I was raised near Jiyugaoka, Meguro, so I have witnessed the transition of the two areas for many years. Many shops closed down and new boutiques and restaurants opened.
The name "Jiyugaoka", literally means "Liberty Hill" or "Freedom Hill", which started to develop in the 1920s after the Tokyu rail services were introduced.
Jiyugaoka was full of the festival atmosphere today. The Jiyugaoka Megami Festival on October 14 seems upgrading and expanding the scale year by year and now is attracting 600,000 visitors. All the streets were filled with markets, standing-up-eating stands, and inundated with visitors. People of all ages seemed to enjoy the festivities.
